This itinerary treats you to an incredible journey of famous icons and historical landmarks beginning with the imperial dynasties of Beijing. In Xi’an you’ll be in awe of the Terracotta Warriors and when your adventure reaches Chengdu, you’ll be fascinated by the adorable Giant Pandas. From Chengdu you’ll travel to the World Ridge where you’ll be humbled by the placid lifestyles of the Tibetan people. Your tour finale is in the fashion, food and business capital of Shanghai. Here you’ll also have an opportunity to visit the picturesque water and garden city of Suzhou.

Suggested Itinerary

Day 1

On arrival to Beijing Airport, you’ll be met by your guide and transferred to your hotel. Please note no meals have been arranged for this day.

Day 2

This morning you will visit Tiananmen Square and tour the amazing Forbidden City - headquarters of the Imperial Emperors for more than 500 years. After lunch visit the tranquil settings of the Temple of Heaven where Emperors prayed for good harvests and the welfare of the people. If time permits, visit the Silk Street Markets and test your bargaining skills in this shopping treasure trove. In the evening we’ve arranged for you to partake in a sumptuous Peking Duck dinner, which is one of China’s most famous signature dishes. (BLD)

Day 3

Today you’ll journey to the Great Wall of China and be overwhelmed as you walk along one of the greatest man-made structures in the world. You’ll also visit the Ming Tombs in the Shisanling Forest, resting place for 13 of the Ming Dynasty emperors. In the evening you have an option** of attending the widely acclaimed Kung Fu Show. (BL)

Day 4

After breakfast you’ll visit the Beijing Olympics site to stroll around the main venues such as the Birds Nest and Water Cube. In the afternoon, visit the magnificent Summer Palace retreat and take a boat trip on Kunming Lake. Late in the afternoon you’ll fly to Xi’an and be met by your local guide and transferred to your hotel. (BL)

Day 5

The highlight of today’s tour is one of China’s most amazing archaeological wonders - the Terracotta Warriors. Marvel as you study the 6,000 plus life-sized clay soldiers and their horses. Later you’ll visit the Wild Goose Pagoda and wander through the old Muslim town and the Grand Mosque. In the evening you’ll enjoy dinner whilst being entertained by the colourful performance of the Tang Dynasty Cultural Show. (BLD)

Day 6

Begin your day with a relaxed start and take a stroll along the well-preserved ancient City Wall. After lunch you will transfer to the airport for a flight to Chengdu where you’ll be met by your guide and transferred to your hotel. This evening has been left open for you to relax or venture around the Chengdu streets and restaurants. (BL)

Day 7

This morning is devoted to a special visit to the Giant Panda Breeding Research Base where you’ll spend ample time checking out China’s national treasure. This is a wonderful opportunity to view the Pandas from early infancy through to their full-grown adulthood. Later participate in a traditional tea ceremony and also have a wander through the heritage-preserved old city. This evening is free of activities. (BL)

Day 8

Today after checkout you’ll depart on a flight to Lhasa - the capital of Tibet. On arrival you’ll be met by your guide and given a brief tour of the Barkhour Market. We’ve allocated plenty of spare time in the afternoon and evening so you can wander around town and acclimatise to the higher altitude. (BL)

Day 9

Head off in the morning for a tour of the fabulous Potala Palace, which is the traditional home of the Dalai Lamas. Afterwards, check out Sera Temple and the Lamaism Temple where you can see monks debating and studying their religion. (BL)

Day 10

Start the day with a visit to Norbulingka Palace, which is the summer retreat for the Dalai Lamas. After lunch, explore Jokhang Palace and then on to Drepung Monastery which is one of the largest monasteries in the world. Later take a browse through Barkhour Markets for some uniquely Tibetan arts and crafts. (BL)

Day 11

A full day has been arranged for you to visit Yamdrok Lake, one of the largest lakes in Tibet. Lunch will be a picnic-style affair alongside the lake and afterwards you’ll spend time with a typical Tibetan family before returning to Lhasa. In the evening you’ll enjoy a traditional Tibetan dinner. (BLD)

Day 12

After breakfast check out and transfer to the airport for your flight to Shanghai via Chengdu. On arrival in Shanghai you’ll be met by your local guide and transferred to your hotel. (BL)

Day 13

In the morning visit the Jade Buddha Temple and admire the peaceful Yuyuan Gardens in Shanghai’s old city quarters. Afterwards, stroll along the Bund to study the architecture of the waterfront promenade and snap up a bargain in the busy markets of nearby Nanjing Road. In the evening enjoy a BBQ style dinner and cap off your day with a breath-taking performance by the Shanghai Acrobatic Show. (BLD)

Day 14

A day trip has been planned to visit the water and garden city of Suzhou. Here you’ll visit the interesting Silk Factory and the Master of the Nets garden before heading to the aptly named Luzhi Water Village. Inundated with lakes, pools, canals and ancient bridges, Luzhi has a history of well over a thousand years. At the end of the day you’ll return to Shanghai. (BL)

Day 15

Today you’ll discover the Pudong Development Area and gain an eagle’s eye view from either the Oriental Pearl Tower or the lofty heights of Jinmao Tower. The remainder of your day is free to venture about and maybe grab some last minute shopping and relax at the end of your tour. (BL)

Day 16

After breakfast checkout and transfer to the airport for your onward flight. (B)
